In this Episode of theShugrHeds…
…We are still making our way through the great big package from Amazon full of US Candy!
As I mentioned in my last post, we first went to Floriday in Late 2000. That seems like a lifetime ago now! It was the end of October and still an unseasonably warm 23-26 deg celsius. We were coming back from a day on the beach when we drove past a house that was lit up like a Christmas tree. Only thing was that we were still in October – it’s far too early for Christmas, surely!
We drove past another, this time we slowed down to get a good look at the decorations. It wasn’t Santa and Reindeer, it was Horned devils and skull masks!
At that time, we didn’t make such a big thing of Halloween in Britain. It was fantastic, lit masks, bubbling couldrons, plastic tomb stones with animated skeleton hands and dry ice. We went to the local Walmart, they must make a killing there (pun intended!) There was shelf after shelf putley dedicated to Halloween. All the decorations, fancy dress and spooky candy anyone could ever want or need.
We gave in and spent a small fortune on useless plastic and goulish sweets. We then looked up Halloween parties in the area. We went to the Disney and Universal offerings which were fantastic. Then we went to Church Street Station and on to a “Hell House”. This is where you walk through a haunted house whilst actors are paid to scare the bejesus out of you! In fact it reminds me a lot of the excellent Tully’s Farm in Sussex. We visited there in 2017 – have a look at our post here to see what we got up to.
Orlando is where we first learned how to really celebrate Halloween. We make it a special occasion each year and the kids love it!
