Getting Fit – theShugrHeds

In this Episode of theShugrHeds…
…the kids attempt to get fit @ a keep fit class. (It doesn’t go that well!)

Kids fitness

As a parent, it is only natural that you want the best for your children, and for them to reach their full potential. You want them to grow up fit, healthy and successful; to learn from your mistakes and (in my case anyway) not end up the same as you.

Healthy Eating

We teach them how to eat healthily – packing in our 5 a day – and encourage them to stay away from all that it not god for them, but are we doing more harm than good? Part of me used to think so, and then I did a complete U-turn when I saw them sat in front of the TV or on computers – this is their future!

Media Conditioning

In the past, I thought there was enough body image pressure from all the media stereotyping and waif like models being slammed for eating disorders, that we didn’t need to pressure the kids at home too.

Getting Fit – theShugrHeds

However, in a world where technology is becoming more integrated in our everyday lives. Where manual work is almost a thing of the past, it is essential that we find time to do some sort of physical exercise. Now, I am not a natural when it comes to exercise, and I would much rather snuggle up with a cuppa and a good book or film.

Gym Newbies

For me, there is nothing worse than dragging my overweight body round a gym. Much worse in front of the dedicated and glamorously attired gym bunnies! I am the one hiding in the corner in mismatched joggers and T-shirt with a face like a beetroot!

Gym Oldbies

Mike, on the other hand, loves a good gym session. He does some sort of physical activity at least once a day (whether it be gym or martial arts). He feels the benefits they provide – he feels good; is losing weight and building up muscle; he is able to clear his mind or indeed has some of his best ideas when working up a sweat; and it helps him to sleep better at night.

I only wish I had the same commitment – maybe it’s time to start Getting Fit – theShugrHeds!
